It's Official... Arkansans are Nuts...

According to a recent poll from Public Policy Polling the outlook in Arkansas is not good...

Some snippets from the poll:

When asked whether they think Obama or Limbaugh has a better vision for the country,
55% of respondents selected Limbaugh in spite of the fact only 35% of them have a
favorable opinion of him, compared to 44% unfavorable.

This survey also found Arkansas is home to many ‘birthers,’ as just 45% of voters believe Obama was born in the country.
Do you think Barack Obama was born in the
United States?
Yes ................................................................. 45%
No ................................................................... 31%
Not Sure.......................................................... 24%

While these numbers sadden me, they don't shock me. I've heard these opinions and the "Obama=Muslim=Enemy" assertion from most of my family since the elections. Ladies and gentlemen, Jim Crowe is alive and well in the the state of Arkansas.

Scary stuff, AH. Scary stuff. Is it cultural, education, or what that leads to this?

Waiting for baby news!

It's a good question, IT. I would say it's mostly cultural, and that I am an anomaly. My brothers believe some of this garbage too, and both my step-mother and sister signed the petition to put Act 1 on the ballot (much to my dismay).

Fundangelicalism (my combo word for Evangelical Fundamentalists) has been a staple here for some time. In my old home town of around 10,000 people you will find 18 churches, mostly some form of Pentecostal or Baptist, with one Methodist church downtown. I grew up in a church that the preacher screamed into a microphone (it was a 25x25 one room church with maybe 15 people, all related), people spoke in tongues (with someone else interpreting), and shouted, danced, and ran around "in the spirit". It's amazing I didn't become one of them.
